Complaints: How to Escalate a Dispute

Most disputes with an online casino are about one of four things: a withdrawal held for verification, a bonus condition, a game round that seemed to go wrong, or an account that was closed or limited. This page explains how to handle them from Canada. We are an independent guide, so we cannot intervene in any dispute, but we can help you put a complaint together that is hard to ignore.

Step 1: gather the evidence

Before you write, collect everything: the date, time and time zone; the amounts in CAD; transaction references from the cashier; round numbers from the game history; and screenshots of any message or error. Save the version of the terms that applied at the time, since operators update them. A complaint with references is resolved faster than one without.

Step 2: contact support, then put it in writing

Start with the operator's support, but do not rely on chat alone. If the first answer does not resolve the issue, send a written complaint by email, set out what happened and what you want, and ask for a reference number and a timeline. Keep your tone factual. Agents can escalate, and a clear message makes that easier.

Step 3: use the operator's complaints procedure

The operator's terms should describe a formal complaints process and, often, an outside dispute body. Follow it in order and keep copies of everything. Missing a step can give the operator a reason to delay.

Why the province matters

If the operator is registered in Ontario, it is bound by the AGCO's standards, and the AGCO is the regulator responsible for the regulated market. Check the iGaming Ontario directory to see whether your operator is listed. If it is not registered in any Canadian province, there may be no Canadian regulator able to take up your complaint, and your options depend on the operator's own procedure and on whatever foreign authority it names. This is one of the strongest reasons to check registration before you deposit, not after.

Disputes that usually have a simple cause

Verification: withdrawals are most often held because documents are missing or details do not match the account; submit what is asked and confirm receipt. Game rounds: the server record decides the result, so quote the round number. Account limits or closure: ask for the specific term relied on, in writing.

What this site cannot do

We cannot see accounts, reverse transactions, contact an operator on your behalf or offer legal advice. If a large sum is involved, consider independent legal advice. If you think you have been the victim of fraud, such as a fake site or app, contact your bank and your local police.

If the dispute is affecting you

Disputes over money can be stressful, and sometimes a dispute is the moment someone realises gambling has become a problem. In Ontario, ConnexOntario is free and confidential at 1-866-531-2600; other provinces are listed on our responsible gambling page. For contacting the operator in the first place, see our support page.
